Six conditions, none optional. Missing one does not make the signature worthless — it makes it a liability for whoever relied on it.
The body must be an entity that can be sued, with stated liability limits and professional indemnity sized to the claims it makes. A partnership or a project of another company cannot carry the consequence of a wrong conclusion.
| Requirement | What we have |
|---|---|
| Registered entity | Company limited by guarantee, Hong Kong (in incorporation) |
| Liability cap | Published in the engagement letter, per engagement |
| Indemnity | To be bound before the first paid engagement |
An impartiality committee that can veto commercial decisions, chaired by someone outside the industry being verified. Without it, a client who pays for a conclusion is one meeting away from getting it.
Named verifiers with documented training, an assessment route and a technical reviewer who did not perform the engagement. Competence is not a CV — it is a record that somebody else can audit.
Measurement traceable to a standard, with calibration certificates and sampling rules stated in the method. A footprint built on an uncalibrated meter is a number, not evidence.
Assessment by a national accreditation body against ISO/IEC 17065 (product certification) and ISO 14065 (GHG validation and verification). This is the longest and most expensive condition, and the one that makes a statement admissible in procurement.
Professional indemnity insurance and a stated cap, so that a wrong statement has a consequence somewhere other than the client's reputation.
